Eating Experience

For my birthday Sergei surprised us with a visit to his mom's village. His wife Olga, his son Joseph, and his sister Larissa also came. His Mom had fixed a traditional Belarussian meal.

We started out with a salad made with pineapple, eggs, corn, and mayonnaise eaten with brown bread.

Then she served Machanka, a soup made with pork ribs and mushrooms.

The soup is eaten by putting a piece of this pancake on the end of your fork and using the pancake as a scoop to eat the soup. Each bite is a piece of pancake and a scoop of machanka.

Max is trying it out.

Last, but not least, she served this birthday cake. It is made by cutting the cake into small square, dipping them into a sauce, then arranging them in a dome shape, and then covering it with chocolate frosting. She also added nuts and banana. It was really delicious.

That is an amazing meal. I do like the cake idea. I sounds like you can put high cal dip on each piece and then cover the whole thing with more high cal frosting. This has got to be the best cake ever.

Wow that all looks interesting and a fun experience. I bet his mom is a fun lady to visit. Does she speak any English?
